Do you like Flea Markets? Do you camp in an RV when you travel? If you answer yes to both questions you need to visit Shipshewana in northeast Indiana. There you will not only find one of the largest flea markets in the country but also a very convenient RV park on the same grounds.
The Shipshewana RV Park is different from most RV parks in several ways. First difference is that there are no reservations accepted. The spots are first come first served. There are no facilities, i.e. no bathhouse, pool, kid’s playground or the like. There are simply 70 sites with full hookups: 50 amp service, water and sewer. Fifty five sites are pull-through and 15 are back in.
When you enter the park you stop and pick up a pay envelope. Pick out your site, put the site number and payment in the envelope and drop it into the box. Pull-through sites are $33, back-in sites are $27. The park is open from April 15 to November 15.
Each site has a gravel pad. Check carefully however, as the sewer connections and water spigots may be in rather awkward locations. When we stayed hubby had to use both of our water hoses to reach the closest spigot. The way the sewer pipes are located in pairs means that you may have to run your sewer hose under your RV to come out the side opposite the RV connection side. This is especially true on the back-in sites.
Each electrical service island is in great shape and offers 20, 30 and 50 amp service. Most of the sites are fairly level. The WiFi is free and very reliable. We had no trouble connecting or maintaining a connection on multiple computers.
The park is on the same grounds as the Shipshewana Flea Market which is right next door. Several of the RVs in the park appear to be permanently parked and are probably owned by flea market vendors. This is a no-frills RV park. The flea market is open on Tuesday and Wednesday. You can head to the park on a Sunday afternoon. Enjoy some sightseeing in Amish country on Monday and the huge Flea Market on Tuesday and Wednesday. Details are available on the RV Park website.
