Shining a light on goodness

This is a feel-good piece about someone who has demonstrated caring. We know that bikers show caring all the time, what with runs for charities and fallen bikers and what have you. This one is just a little different.

I've written about Lorna Reed before, who makes fleece-lined motorcycle chaps and sells them through her company, Colorado Chaps. Well, imagine my surprise recently when a Google Alert I have set up picked up a post from a motorcycle forum that was about Lorna. First off, it's odd because Google Alerts don't generally pick up stuff from forums, but this one did.

The post was from a guy in Australia. He had ordered some chaps from Lorna and, as she told me later, there a problem in receiving them. It seems that when digitally addressing the package she inadvertently selected Austria, as opposed to Australia ("I do know the difference," she says), and thus his chaps took a three-week around the world cruise.

Lorna completes this part of the story:

So while his chaps were taking a  three week  around the world cruise, he was awfully good natured  about it and  didn't want a $35  shipping refund which I felt was the least I should do  for his inconvenience. A month later he sent me a kind review of my chaps right in the middle of the flood waters rising all around him...something I wasn't aware of. I imagine he had better things to do at that moment. Anyway when I realized the timing of his  email and continued kindness it was just too much for me....so that is how/why I responded.

It was Lorna's response that the guy wrote about on the forum. He posted this message she sent him:

I'm sorry that I was so unawares of the plight of your city/country. Our news has been engrossed in the slayings in Tucson Arizona.
My thoughts and my prayers go to you, your family, and your neighbors.
I just refunded $100. to your credit card ending in XXXX
When you are able, please contribute this to a family, your church, the Red Cross, whom ever needs it most there in Brisbane.
My heart is with you and your family and your country.
We are really all one, on a tiny earth.................

So there you go, I'm embarassing Lorna by giving her a lot of publicity for something she never intended to become public. But this is the kind of thing people need to hear more about, to compensate for all the negative stuff we hear about all the time. And by the way, if you're at all interested in some good winter riding chaps, consider giving Lorna your business. I have a pair of her chaps myself, and I definitely recommend them.

I appreciate you sharing this great little tidbit. I agree that the media is generally so full of the negative and also fluff pieces about things that they think are good that we truly lose sight of the goodness in so many people around us everyday. Keep up the good work.

I always love hearing about the good stuff and especially vendors and merchants who do good by their customers.

Isn't it amazing the friendships we can forge all over the world from people that read our stuff or do business with us.

They may not care too much about what's going on in Dallas, but we always have something in common with them and it makes the world feel a lot smaller and a lot safer.
