As of a few weeks ago, we were halfway through our Sherwin Williams 2013 Colormix forecast with the introduction of the color two palettes: Midnight Mystery and Honed Vitality.
While we love the dramatic intrigue of the Midnight Mystery and the calming representation of earth's rich tactile qualities from Honed Vitality; we admit to being somewhat giddy about this next one. Vintage Moxie.
Vintage Moxie puts a little 'diva' into the demure. It is all about those ladylike classics but this lady is no wallflower. This palette is as feminine as it is free, spirited and bold.
The drivers for this look are a throwback to the 50’s and 60’s but born anew they maintain a fresh modern edge. It is a move to all things mod. Elegance with a funky twist.
The ladies themselves who inspire us are Twiggy; whose legendary look and style has continued to impact us to this day and the singer Adele; whose music, beauty and style carries a romantic yearning with a vintage vibe. This look is also inspired by the hit series Mad Men and the revival of that touch of rock-and-roll themed style on the runways...filtering into everyday fashion.
We love classic silhouettes punctuated with the retro glamor of pearls or the striking accents of often uncut semi precious stones in brilliant tones such as tourmaline, citrine, peridot and amethyst.
This palette has turned up the volume on the typical pastels, changing completely the way we interact with these feminine tones. They are all jazzed up and taking a leading role against the neutrals of gauzy white and traditionally dominating black.
It is this pairing of color contrasts that give this palette its moxie. This attitude of striking femininity is a stunning reflection of many powerful woman in our society who venture out of their comfort zones daring to dream big and follow their dreams, all while maintaining their inherent beauty that is part of being a woman.
