Sherman wrote a short piece for TheMMQB.com detailing, in his opinion, the top 5 quarterbacks in the league in a cerebral context. Sherman rated Manning number one on his list, praising the 4-time MVP for his command at the line of scrimmage, and his ability to adjust to situations in the moment. Sherman also critiqued Manning's throwing,
His arm, however, is another story. His passes will be accurate and on time, but he throws ducks.
While Sherman's critique was made just weeks ago, Sherman stated that he "still feels the same way" in a recent interview. Sherman continued,
He's a great quarterback he does a great job. At the same time, when he catches the ball he doesn't necessarily catch the laces all the time. But he throws an accurate ball regardless of how he catches it, how he gets it. He delivers it on time and accurately.
Manning's arm is one of but many questions that surrounded the quarterback entering not only 2013 but 2012 with the Broncos as well. Inquiries were made into his age, arm strength, ability to compete, as well as obvious questions regarding his recent neck surgery. Manning answered a number of those questions on the field of play, putting up a record setting 55 touchdowns, and a league-high 5,477 yards.
Manning responded to Sherman's jab,
They say he's a smart player, and I don't think that's a real reach what he's saying there. I do throw ducks. I've thrown a lot of yards and touchdown ducks, so I'm actually quite proud of it.
Manning has plenty to be proud of, as he looks to bring home his fourth MVP award, as well as over 600 points this year. Manning also looks to his talented corps of receivers in Wes Welker, Eric Decker, and Demariyus Thomas to push them beyond the Seahawks on February 2nd, and in to the company of legends.
Thomas recently stated that he would "love that matchup" speaking of Richard Sherman, and commented that Sherman was, "the best in the game". Thomas continued, "Watching film on him, he's in the right spot at all times. He knows what's going on on the field, he knows leverage and all this other stuff. I am going to have to figure something out."
Thomas has been named to the Pro Bowl in both of Manning's seasons with the Broncos, and Sherman knows that he may be matched with Thomas, but all comes down to play calls, "Whoever lines up on the left. Whoever lines up on my side is who I'll match up with".
