According to Hypable reports, BBC One will be premiering an online “Sherlock” mini-episode on Christmas Day.

Acting as a prequel to series 3, the episode, entitled “Many Happy Returns,” will pick up two years after Sherlock’s supposed death.

“Sherlock has been gone for two years. But someone isn’t quite convinced that he’s dead…”, reads the episode summary.

The show, which stars Benedict Cumberbatch as Sherlock Holmes and Martin Freeman as Doctor John Watson, first premiered in 2010 with three episodes in the first series. The second series, which aired in 2012 also has 3 episodes. “Sherlock” was created by Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss, and it was inspired by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s stories of detective Sherlock Holmes.

Also starring in key roles include Rupert Graves as Detective Inspector Greg Lestrade; Andrew Scott as James Moriarty; Una Stubbs as Mrs. Hudson; and Mark Gatiss stars as Holmes’ brother, Mycroft.

Season 3 of “Sherlock” will premiere in the UK on New Years Day. The American premiere date will be January 19 on PBS.
