It's not often people think of Sheriff Joe Arpaio as a victim, but apparently that is just what the case is after this past weekend. Arpaio's credit card information was stolen, and AZ Central shared the details on Feb. 4.
Sheriff Joe Arpaio is a victim of identity theft after his credit card number was used fraudulently to make a $300 purchase at a Chicago, Ill. grocery store this past weekend. Fox 10 shares that Sheriff Joe discovered the identity theft after he got a phone call from his credit card company. There were some unusual charges, and sure enough, Arpaio had no knowledge of the purchases. He says he hasn't been to Chicago in years, and he suspects this was the work of a "skimmer."
Arpaio is glad that the fraud was caught early, and of course he has canceled the card. He says he hopes it wasn't his infamous name that drew the thief's attention. Sheriff Joe says that if the thief did know who he was when they stole the number, they probably should have thought twice before ripping him off. As people know, Sheriff Joe certainly has a reputation about getting what he wants.
Identity theft has become a huge issue across the country, but most would never expect to hear that Sheriff Joe Arpaio is a victim of it himself.
