How did you get your start in fitness?
I've always loved to dance but until about ten years ago had never been an instructor. I moved to Atlanta and was looking for part-time work while I pursued my singing and songwriting career. I interviewed for a hip-hop dance instructor job and was hired on the spot.
As an African American fitness professional how have you impacted or hope to impact the African American community?
My goal is to help educate people everywhere about the health benefits of dance - especially for African-Americans since our community has much higher rates of obesity, hypertension and heart disease. Dance is a great way to help avoid or reduce those health issues.
What's your favorite form of fitness?
Dance is absolutely my favorite way to stay healthy, most of all because it's FUN! Dancing gives you the most wanted benefits of working out - weight loss, higher metabolism, increased endurance - but since it doesn't feel like you're exercising, people are much more likely to stick with it.
