Shaw Gallery hosts reception for Connecticut artist Leonard Mizerek tonight (Photos)

When’s the last time you sunned yourself on the beaches of Trouville or Honfleur? Or strolled the Tuileries Gardens in the afternoon, gazed upon Notre Dame at dusk or taken in dinner and drinks at a bistro on the banks of the Seine? You can do all that and more tonight at Shaw Gallery of Fine Art in Naples, when the gallery proudly hosts an encore exhibition of new works by Westport, Connecticut artist Leonard Mizerek, a world-renowned maritime master and painter of Parisian cityscapes, French landscapes and the magnificent coastline of southern France.

Mizerek’s oils are impressive Impressionist studies of the effects of lighting extremes on value, color and shape. Among this collection, you’ll discover moonlit themes, late-night harbors, sun-baked beaches and Paris cafes aglow in the late afternoon sun.

Even if you don’t love all things French, there’s a lot to enjoy. Mizerek’s depictions of Fifth Avenue and Soho in Manhattan are alive with color and activity, and he handles sunsets over the Everglades with the same aplomb as west coast Floridian beaches sizzling in the midday sun.

But be prepared to stay awhile when you visit Shaw’s Fifth Avenue South gallery for the exhibit. As one collector phrased it during the opening night reception for Mizerek last year, “it’s just so enjoyable, it’s hard to leave.” And for his part, Mizerek will be staying for awhile. As much as 40 inches of snow are forecast for Westport, Connecticut between tonight and tomorrow. So Leonard's in no hurry to get home.

The artist will be in the gallery from 6-9 p.m. for hors d’oeuvres, wine and an evening of artful conversation. Shaw Gallery of Fine Art is located at 761 Fifth Avenue South in Naples. For more information, please visit www.shawgallery.com or telephone 239-947-4938.
