Shaw beats Lincoln in CIAA Tournament first round

Basketball fans attending the first round of the 2011 CIAA Tournament at the Time Warner Cable Arena in Charlotte, NC got to see something special Wednesday; a perfect game. Shaw University’s Raheem Smith made every shot he attempted in the Bears 67-43 win over Lincoln (PA) University.

Smith made all nine of his field goal attempts and was perfect from the free-throw line to lead the Bears with 25 points. Teammate Tony Smith added another 10 points.

Shaw University jumped out on top early 8-0. Lincoln tied the game 8-8 before the Bears went on the first of the game’s two decisive runs. Shaw went on a 22-10 run and headed into the locker room at halftime with the score 30-18.

In the second half, Shaw went on another scoring run to decide the game. The Bears kept the Lions scoreless as they went on a 23-0 run.

Terron Jones led all Lincoln players with 22 points. Denzel Mooney scored 11 points for the Lions.

With the win, Shaw advances to the quarterfinals to play Elizabeth City State University Thursday at 1pm. Elizabeth City State University defeated Saint Augustine’s College in their first round game of the 2011 CIAA Tournament.
