According to Vicki Hall of the Calgary Herald, Shattuck-St. Mary's came into the 2013 World Sport School Challenge in Calgary as the headline team and on Friday at the Markin MacPhail Centre, played like an elite group.
The school, which is located in Minnesota, and whose notable alumni includes Sidney Crosby, Jonathan Toews and Zach Parise, was absolutely dominant in the opening day of the tournament in a 11-2 win over the Banff Hockey Academy.
Marcel Godbout led Shattuck-St. Mary's with a hat trick, while Ryan Norman and Alex Rodriguez each scored twice. Shattuck-St. Mary's scored five times in the second period to blow the game wide open.
Shattuck-St. Mary's are the defending champions of the World Sport School Challenge. They switched tournaments in Calgary last season from the Mac's Midget Hockey Tournament, which they won in 1999, 2000, 2001 and 2003.
In other action, the Czech Republic defeated the Okanagan 5-1 and the Edge School defeated Germany 6-3.
