This season Shasta Roller Derby has a brand new bag. After working for several months meeting stringent criteria, Shasta recently held their final mock sanction bout against the Bay Area Derby Girls, successfully completing their Women's Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA) application. To celebrate their success,Shasta's season opener (to be held at their brand new venue) will feature all of the Shasta skaters.
On Saturday, March 15, at Big League Dreams (20155 Viking Way, Redding CA), a mix of Shasta Assassins and the Shasta Hit Squad will be playing against each other in a regulation Black vs White bout. The Assassins, Shasta's WFTDA A-team will be equally dispersed and mixed with the Hit Squad, Shasta's B-team, in what promises to be a closely matched and hotly contested bout. It will also be a perfect opportunity for fans to see the entire team on skates over the course of 60 minutes.
The new venue, Big League Dreams, home to all manner of sporting events, offers refreshments, beer and BBQ during the event. The after party will be on the premises at the Big League Dreams club house. While waiting for the action to begin, shop the Vendor Village, get your face painted and buy a raffle ticket. The half time show will be performed by the California Dance Company.
Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and the action starts promptly at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are available in advance for $10 from Brown Paper Tickets or at the door for $12.
