Sharon Stone credits a low-sugar, low-carb diet and yoga workouts for her age-defying nude body at 57. While Stone has always exuded a cool self-confidence, she admits aging is rough.
“There was a point in my 40s when I went into the bathroom with a bottle of wine, locked the door, and said, ‘I’m not coming out until I can totally accept the way that I look right now,' " Sharon told Shape.
Eventually, the blonde beauty resolved to age gracefully rather than fight the process, and has never felt better. Stone, who recently posed nude in Harper's Bazaar (see above), hopes society will begin to expand its definition of beauty to include older women.
"This idea that being youthful is the only thing that’s beautiful or attractive simply isn’t true," said Stone. "I don’t want to be an ‘ageless beauty.’ I want to be a woman who is the best I can be at my age.”
Sharon said she has never had plastic surgery because she doesn't want to look like a cookie-cutter blonde. “We've got 400,000 girls with beach-y blonde hair, the same nose, gigantic lips, implants in their cheeks, and little Chicklets for teeth," she said. "Are they really prettier?”
Stone maintains her enviable figure by following the low-carb GI (Glycemic Index) Diet. Sharon's diet is heavy in red meat and vegetables but avoids sugar and simple carbs. Stone has followed the GI Diet for over 10 years, and credits it for helping her recover from a brain aneurysm in 2001.
The leggy 5-foot-9 Stone also works out regularly, combining strength-training, stretching, dancing and yoga. Stone has always been slim, but admits gaining 45 pounds during her twenties threw her into a serious depression.
"When I was 20, after my horseback-riding accident, I was given cortisone shots and I gained a lot of weight, like 45 pounds," said Sharon. "I looked a little like Anna Nicole Smith, with a tiny waist, big boobs, and a big butt. Everywhere I went, men went insane over my va-va-voom body. I just wanted to die, and I became an introvert."
Stone is now content to just be herself, and not buckle under pressure to look young. “I’m not trying to make myself look like a girl because I’m not a girl anymore," Sharon said. "I’m very happy about being a grown woman."
Sharon Stone recently said Jane Fonda (who looks incredible at 77) is her workout inspiration.
