For all those women who believe that getting older means weight gain is inevitable, 61-year-old Sharon Osbourne has a message: By choosing the right diet, you can take off the pounds at any age. Sharon talked about how she lost 23 pounds in six weeks on the low-carb Atkins diet during the April 4 episode of "The Doctors" talk show.
Sharon admitted that living life in the spotlight isn't always easy. She struggled with her weight all her life, and at one point she weighed 230 pounds. Sharon felt that she had tried everything, including diet pills and weight loss surgery. Then she found what she considers her "perfect" diet.
Now that she's lost 23 pounds in six weeks and maintained her weight loss, Sharon is a believer in the Atkins low carb high fat (LCHF) diet. The LCHF plan recently received a makeover to boost the healthy fats and fiber, detailed in "The New Atkins Made Easy: A Faster, Simpler Way to Shed Weight and Feel Great -- Starting Today!" (click for details).
Smiling at the compliments about her perfect skin and youthful appearance, Sharon noted that she feels the low-carb food plan prescribed by the Atkins approach helps. The diet includes healthy fats, protein and limited amounts of carbohydrates. It's a ketogenic diet, which means that it boosts the body's fat-burning capacities.
In a recent blog for the Atkins company site, Sharon revealed that her husband has joined her healthier lifestyle.
"We used to do a lot of take out, but now we pop one of the frozen meals in the microwave," she blogged.
And for those who want to learn to make their own Atkins-approved meals and snacks, there's a new cookbook: "The New Atkins for a New You Cookbook: 200 Simple and Delicious Low-Carb Recipes in 30 Minutes or Less."
In addition, Sharon has boosted her exercise.
"When I first got started on Atkins, I would get tired just walking from my dressing room to the stage," she recalls.
"Once I started losing some of that weight, I started to notice it was getting easier to move around from place to place."
