Sharon Osbourne has now publicly admitted that she asked her husband, Ozzy Osbourne, for a divorce after his relapse that he says happened between late 2011 to early 2013. In an article published on Sept. 29, 2013, The Sun published excerpts from Sharon's third memoir, "Unbreakable," in which she details the couple's marital crisis that almost led to a divorce.
"Unbreakable" will be released on Oct. 10, 2013.
Sharon (who is 60) and Ozzy (who is 64) made headlines in April 2013, when it was reported that the couple (who have been married since 1982) were living apart and no longer wearing their wedding rings. Ozzy, who is a recovering drug addict/alcoholic, then made a statement on his official Facebook page that he had relapsed from late 2011 to early 2013 but that he had been clean and sober since March 2013.
In the statement, Ozzy made a public apology for relapsing and how he acted during his relapse. He and Sharon both publicly acknowledged that their marriage was going through a rough patch, but they both denied that they're getting divorced.
Sharon has been Ozzy's manager since 1979. Sharon and Ozzy have three children together: Aimee, Kelly and Jack. Ozzy has three other kids (Elliot, Jessica and Louis) from his first marriage to ex-wife Thelma. Ozzy, Sharon, Jack and Kelly have each spent time in rehab for addiction issues.
Sharon and Ozzy Osbourne have both talked about their relationship in interviews and their respective memoirs. The couple began dating while he was still married to his first wife, Thelma, who eventually divorced Ozzy. In their memoirs, Sharon and Ozzy each detailed the ups and downs of their relationship, including violent fights with each other, numerous breakups and Ozzy's arrest in 1989 for trying to strangle Sharon to death. The charges were dropped after Ozzy agreed to go to rehab.
In "Unbreakable," Sharon described an incident that happened during Ozzy's most recent relapse: "As soon as he spoke he was cocky and arrogant. There didn't seem one shred of remorse. Something snapped. I thought, 'I can't carry his sh*t any more. It's what I have always done, and I'm tired.' I said, 'I want a divorce' ... He didn't look shocked. I don't think he believed me, but at the time I meant it wholeheartedly. I was expecting him to be mortified ...
"I knew money was Ozzy's Achilles heel, and the thought of losing it might have more impact than the thought of losing me. 'No f*cking way. Over my dead body,' he said. My Achilles heel is respect, namely the lack of it, in other people. I felt he was being dismissive, so that was it. Snap. I was drinking a cappuccino and the whole lot went on his head: the coffee, the cup and the bloody saucer. Then I grabbed him and pulled at his precious hair with one hand, while trying to yank off his jewelry with the other.''
Sharon also talked about her reaction to Ozzy when he told her he wanted to have a bachelor life again: “I f*cking hate you! You’re a f*cking pensioner. You need a bus pass.”
Sharon also said that another low point in their marriage was on July 4, 2012 (Ozzy and Sharon's 30th wedding anniversary): “I would never have imagined our anniversary would be the beginning of one of the worst periods in our turbulent marriage. I’d like to tell you he got me a vast bouquet of flowers and took me for a candlelit supper.
“But I’m married to Ozzy Osbourne, whose capacity for f*cking up is legendary. So suffice to say that it was one of the most anti-climactic, frustrating, distressing days of my life. And given what I have been through, that’s saying something.”
Sharon says she discovered that Ozzy was abusing drugs again when she saw on Ozzy's phone that he had “texts going back months, asking people for drugs and saying, ‘Don’t tell the old girl.' It was all there again. Everything I knew I’d find but desperately hoped I wouldn’t. My husband was abusing again."
According to Sharon, Ozzy was abusing Valium, Ritalin and other drugs.
The Osbournes have also had to deal with other health issues besides alcoholism and drug addiction: In 2003, Ozzy was seriously injured in an ATV accident. He was diagnosed with early stages of Parkinson's disease in 2005. Sharon is a survivor of colon cancer, and she had a double mastectomy in 2012 after she found out that she has a gene that greatly increases her chances of getting breast cancer. Jack was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 2012.
By May 2013, Ozzy and Sharon had reconciled and moved back in together. It was also the month that it was officially announced that Sharon replaced fired judge Tulisa Contostavlos on "The X Factor" U.K. The news had been reported by British tabloids several months before it was officially announced. The other judges on "The X Factor" U.K. in 2013 are Louis Walsh, Gary Barlow and Nicole Scherzinger.
Sharon was a judge on ITV's "The X Factor" U.K. from 2004 to 2007, and a judge on NBC's "America's Got Talent" from 2007 to 2012. She has been co-hosting CBS's Los Angeles-based daytime chat show "The Talk" since the show's 2010 debut. She announced on "The Talk" that she is not quitting the show, and that she will commute back and forth between the U.K. and the U.S. in order to continue working on "The X Factor" and "The Talk." Sharon has been saying in interviews that 2013 is her last year as a judge on "The X Factor" U.K., but it remains to be seen if that is really going to be true.
