Sharon Fourth of July

See also

As the fourth of July gets closer, families are planning their annual cookouts and family gatherings. This year, there are plenty of events to do in nearby towns. Families can choose to have their cookouts and then go see fireworks or go and spend the day for the festivities.

My family used to always go to the Abington carnival and fireworks display but in recent years, the budget crunch has made them cancel it. And since the fourth just doesn’t seem right without going to fireworks, we ventured out to find another location. At the time, we lived in Holbrook so we went to nearby Sharon. As first year virgins, we had no idea where to sit, where to look or even what they had there. We had gotten there early enough to sit right next to the water but too close to a tree. We could barely make out the fireworks between the branches, but it was a good display nonetheless. The vendors their sell food, drinks and have a few games to play. Kids can swim until a certain time in a sectioned off area of the pond. They have a band that plays, a man walking around on stilts and a few other attractions. Nearby kids had bubbles and of course, glow sticks. This year, I plan on going prepared. First, we will bring bathing suits and towels for the kids to go swimming. We will also bring some bubbles and definitely not sit under a tree. And of course, we will bring our chairs.

We are also looking forward to some of the fun activities they have planned such as the DJ, games, the roaming railroad, slot racing game and even more. Weather permitting, they will also have some special guests from the Sharon Sunnyrock 4H Club (miniature pony rides and petting and petting animals.) There is also a bicycle and doll carriage parade that starts at 4pm. Kids can line up to participle at the Beech Tree Park at 3:45pm and all participants will receive a price and an ice cream.

The bandstand concert will play from 6:30-9:15 featuring the Sharon Concert Band. And don’t forget about the pie eating contest near the bandstand at 8pm. The lucky winner will receive a $50! (if you wish to sign up, sign up earlier in the evening at the main gate at Beach Street with one of the organizers in red shirts.) Special thanks to Shaw’s Supermarkets for generously donating pies for the contest.
