Sharks stomp on Ducks in first preseason tilt

Although preseason games and stats don't count towards the regular season, the San Jose Sharks' trouncing of the Anaheim Ducks should surely be a sign of good things to come for the Sharks.

The Sharks fought back from an early 1-0 deficit to score six unanswered goals and win the game 6-1.

Logan Couture had two goals, while Tommy Wingels, Jason Demers, Sean Sullivan and Andrew Murray scored the other four for the Sharks. Anaheim's Andrew Gordon tallied the lone goal for the Ducks.

Here are the notes to take away from San Jose's victory over the Ducks:

  1. Rookie goalie Thomas Greiss saved 19 of 20 shots, posting a .950 save percentage. He also shut out the league's highest scoring player from last year, Corey Perry. Greiss will also be San Jose's number one back up for at least three months while Antero Nittymaki recovers from a surgical procedure.
  2. The Sharks were perfect on the penalty kill and went 3 for 6 on the powerplay.
  3. The Sharks played so well...without the likes of Joe Thornton, Patrick Marleau, Dan Boyle, Brent Burns, Joe Pavelski, Michal Handzus, and more. Those players did not make the trip to Anaheim.

Hockey is back.
