Sharks start season with two victories (Photos)

The San Jose Sharks scored four unanswered goals to win 4-1 against the Vancouver Canucks on Thursday, October 3, 2013 at the SAP Center in San Jose, CA to win their season opener. They followed it up with a 4-1 victory over the Phoenix Coyotes on Saturday, October 5, 2013 at home. Logan Couture led the Sharks with two assists against Vancouver, and rookie Thomas Hertl scored two goals against Phoenix to add to his assist against the Canucks.

San Jose was down early against the Canucks with Vancouver's Jason Garrison scoring in the first period. Brent Burns and Justin Braun got a pair of goals for the Sharks in the second period, however, to take a 2-1 lead. Patrick Marleau and Tommy Wingels added third period goals for the Sharks to take a 4-1 win against the visitors.

Against the Coyotes, Hertl scored just 46 seconds into the game, and he added a power play goal later in the period to make it 2-0 Sharks. Marleau scored his second goal of the season at the 12:30 minute mark to give San Jose a commanding 3-0 lead after the first period. Oliver Ekman-Larsson scored the only goal for the Coyotes late in the second period, and Couture sealed the game with an empty netter in the third period for another 4-1 Sharks win.

The Sharks is 2-0 and will host the New York Rangers on Tuesday, October 8, 2013 before traveling to Vancouver to play the Canucks on Thursday, October 10, 2013.
