Sharks dump Ducks 5-1 in preseason home opener (Photos)

The San Jose Sharks routed rival Anaheim Ducks 5-1 in a preseason game on Friday, September 23, 2011 at the HP Pavilion in San Jose, CA. The Sharks dominated the entire game outshooting the Ducks 49-14 for the game. Defenseman Mike Moore led the Sharks with 3 assists.

Rookie Matthew Irwin started the scoring for the Sharks at the 15:21 minute mark of the first period with his power-play goal. Defenseman Dan Boyle added another goal with 2 seconds left in the 1st period.

Douglas Murray made it 3-0 with his goal at the 8:24 minute mark in the second period before the Ducks Ryan Getzlaf scored the first and only goal for the Anaheim at the 14:56 minute mark in the 2nd period with a man advantage.

Torrey Mitchell and Andrew Murray also scored for the Sharks to complete the 5-1 rout.

San Jose will open the regular season at home against the Phoenix Coyotes on Saturday, October 8, 2011.
