In what’s already been an eventful offseason, the Jacksonville Sharks have something else to celebrate. A trio of defensive backs: Micheaux Robinson, Tracy Belton, and DB/WR Terrance Smith have been selected to represent the Sharks as part of the Eastern Conference All-Star roster for the two-game exhibition series slated for Honolulu and Beijing.
Kickoff of the first game of the series is slated for Saturday, November 2nd, at 10:00 p.m. Eastern, in Honolulu, HI. The second game will be played in Beijing on Sunday, November 10th. Kickoff for that game is set for 2:00 a.m. Eastern time.
All three players will get an opportunity to shine on arguably the biggest stage of their careers. First, the Honolulu game will be streamed live on ESPN3, allowing exposure to a national audience here in the States. From there, it only gets bigger, as the Beijing game will be televised nationally throughout China. At a recent press conference, Lou Tilley, a media representative for AFL China, announced that the viewing audience for the Beijing game could be as large as one billion people. In comparison, the total attendance in the 26-year history of the Arena Football League is just shy of 30 million.
Robinson and Smith were both defensive start for Jacksonville in 2013. Smith, despite missing time due to injury, finished third in the league with 12 interceptions, while Robinson led the league with 33 pass breakups and four picks of his own, returning two for touchdowns. Tracy Belton led the trio of defenders with 94.5 tackles, and he added four forced fumbles on the season.
While they were the only selections for the defending division champions, they were three of the five DBs chosen to represent the East, and will surely be an anchor to the defensive backfield, and a good performance in these two games could mean fantastic times ahead for the Jacksonville Sharks as they look forward to the 2014 season.
