Sharks beat Flames 3-2 Monday

According to TSN, the San Jose Sharks defeated the Calgary Flames 3-2 on Monday night.

The Sharks were led in scoring by Joe Pavelski who notched two goals, including the game winning goal at 14:54 on the power play from Joe Thornton and Jason Demers to break a 2-2 deadlock.

The Flames' penalty, an interference infraction by Matt Stajan, was a costly one. Ironically after the penalty-filled affair between the Calgary Flames and Vancouver Canucks on Saturday night that saw over 200 minutes in penalties handed out after the first two seconds, the Stajan penalty was the only penalty in the entire hockey game.

Flames' defenseman Kris Russell returned to the lineup after missing 13 games with a sprained medial collateral ligament. The defenseman from Caroline, Alberta notched an assist. Ironically Russell assisted on a goal by Kevin Westgarth, who scored his first goal as a member of the Calgary Flames. Westgarth faced off at center ice on Saturday night when Flames' head coach Bob Hartley decided to start all of his enforcers.

Calgary, which drops to 16-27-7, will next play host to the Phoenix Coyotes on Wednesday night.
