'Sharknado 2: The Second One' jaws its way to Syfy

The first 'Sharknado' film starring Ian Ziering, Tara Reid, and John Heard turned out to be a surprise hit for Syfy last summer. Thanks to the Twitterverse, the sharp toothed creature feature blew up and a follow up film was inevitable.

Grab your chainsaws all you full cartilaginous skeleton fish fans, because the flesh annihilating shark tornados are back for round number two. The tornadic bloodfest sequel 'Sharknado 2: The Second One' premieres Wednesday, July 30, on Syfy (part of NBCUniversal, which is part of Comcast).

In this carnage filled funnel cloud offering, actor Ian Ziering and actress Tara Reid return to fight against the Jaws filled cyclones. The plot takes the form of a freak weather system (shark storm) and adjusts its aim on New York City, unleashing a Sharknado on the city and its most beloved, iconic sites. Fin (Ziering) and April (Reid) are the Big Apple's only hope. Cue large chainsaw.

The Sharknado craze seems to have captured the attention of many Hollywood actors, singers, socialites and a well known sandwich pitchman. To drop a few names, some of the cast members include Vivica A. Fox, Mark McGrath, Tiffany Shepis, Andy Dick, Courtney Baxter, Michael Dugan, Kelly Osbourne, Perez Hilton, Billy Ray Cyrus, and sandwich pitchman Jared Fogle among others. Adding to the cameo appearances are The “Today” show’s Matt Lauer and Al Roker, seemingly offering a throwback to times when news anchors humorously portrayed themselves in disaster movies.

Looking for a way to get involved in the fun, party or simply enjoy something as unimportant, silly, albeit enjoyable as a 'Sharknado' flick? Well, Syfy has you covered. You can Go Shark Yourself by downloading a smartphone app (iTunes or Google Play Store). The app allows you to take photos of yourself in the midst of shark carnage and share on social media sites.

Syfy is also offering fans the perfect excuse to stay at home while having a viewing party. That's right, they have provided eager viewers a Sharknado Party Kit. Included in the party kit are some food and drink recipes. The original Sharknado returns on July 30th (7/6c) airing prior to Sharknado 2: The Second One (9/8c).

Twitter users are also encouraged to socialize with others while "live Tweeting" during the show with the hashtag #Sharknado2. You can also follow Syfy on Twitter @SyfyTv.
