This year Discovery is pulling out all the stops for its biggest Shark Week ever. It starts Sunday, August 10, and includes 13 hours of documentaries plus nightly live talk shows, which by the way is the most programming in the event’s history.

While Shark Week always includes shows from previous seasons, new features include the highly anticipated Jaws Strikes Back, made in conjunction with the well-known Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (WHOI) and marine biologist and shark researcher Dr. Greg Skomal.

For the piece, Skomal traveled to out-of-the-way Pacific island of Guadalupe to film the hunting behavior of the largest great white sharks on earth, using the SharkCam, the world’s only robot that can get close to a great white shark. The robot can even get bitten (for the definitive first-person perspective) and still keep filming. According to Amy L. Kukulya, a Senior Engineering Technician in Applied Ocean Physics & Engineering at Woods Hole, the “REMUS SharkCam is an autonomous underwater robot designed and built at Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution. It’s the only robot of its kind capable of tracking, following and imaging large marine animals in their natural environments.”

Be ready for Shark Week beginning on August 10, 2014 with irreverently-themed cocktails from TY KU Sake and ZYR Vodka. Sink your teeth into these recipes while you shake and stir them up like "the second coming of Sharknado." After all, with these delicious cocktails in hand, it may be a bad week to be a seal, but it’s a darn great week to be you!
