In 2005, the father and stepmother of Shannon Polson were attacked by a grizzly bear in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. Considered rare, the attack killed both the veteran wilderness adventurers.
On the first anniversary of their death, Polson decided to take her own arctic journey following their last rafting trip and the territory where they died.
North of Hope is the tale of this journey of grieving, coping and understanding against the beauty of the arctic wilderness.
Polson lives in the Pacific Northwest where she and her family enjoy and active outdoor life, including sky diving, scuba diving and Ironman triatholons. In 2009, she was awarded the Trailblazer Woman of Valor award from Washington State Senator Maria Cantwell.
She will be appearing at Country Bookshelf, an independent bookstore located on the Main Street of Bozeman Montana.
