Oklahoma's own Shannon Miller, Olympic gold medalist in gymnastics, is pregnant. It was reported on Jan. 14 by ESPN that only two years after learning she had ovarian cancer, Shannon Miller is expecting her second child.
Shannon Miller was diagnosed with a germ cell malignancy, a rare form of ovarian cancer, in 2010. She underwent nine weeks of chemotherapy after the tumor was removed about two years ago. Germ cell malignancies are most common in teenagers and women under 30.
“That is a miracle,” Staci Randall, from Oklahoma City, said. “I'm so happy for her. I remember watching her in the Olympics. She is extremely talented. Shannon [Miller] was a joy to watch, no matter what event she was competing in.”
Shannon Miller is from Edmond. She is the most decorated U.S. gymnast. She won seven Olympic medals and nine world championship medals. Shannon Miller is also a two-time world all-around champion. She and her husband, John Falconetti, have a three year old son, Rocco.
