San Diegans can get lucky this Wednesday in the Gaslamp Quarter when shamROCK 2010 comes to town for some St. Patrick’s Day excitement. March 17 will bring the greenest party of the year to Fifth Avenue downtown San Diego, highlighting the city’s Irish bars and pubs for their ultimate day of glory.

This year San Diego is rolling out the green carpet for Southern California’s own St. Patrick’s Day celebration, and there’s no better time to witness the Gaslamp Quarter than when St. Patty's Day excitement runs rampant through the streets.

shamROCK 2010 will close off the Gaslamp Quarter tomorrow evening and flood the streets with green Astroturf, three stages of live entertainment, green beer and Irish whiskey, bringing leprechauns and Irish jigs to the forefront of attention for one night only.

More than 20,000 shamROCKers (over age 21) are expected to flock to the Gaslamp Quarter in green attire Wednesday evening to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day in style, and it all starts with an extra-early happy hour at 4 p.m., with live entertainment kicking off on the Main Stage as Irish Folk Rock transforms downtown San Diego into a St. Patty’s Day extravaganza.

shamROCKers can dance their favorite Irish jigs with the Irish Step Dancers well into the evening, and the Fooks will take over singing Irish pub sing-alongs on the Main Stage, warming the crowd up for the Young Dubliners, No Duh and the Down’s Family, providing the night’s live music.

After sloshing green beer through the streets of downtown San Diego, bar hoppers can crash a party at one of 20 Gaslamp nightclubs and restaurants free of charge, paying homage to Irish ancestors with Irish Car Bombs and Guinness salutes. For the all-out St. Patrick’s Day partiers, downtown’s The Field is the place to end the night. The authentic Irish pub and restaurant serves up signature Irish dishes like corned beef and cabbage, and drinks like the Half-n-Half (Guinness over Harp) and Irish coffee keep the festivities flowing late into the night.

Again this year, shamROCK will offer free taxi rides home to anywhere in San Diego County for patrons wearing shamROCK wrist bands. The party gets started Wednesday afternoon at 4 p.m., and tickets are $20 in advance and $25 at the door (barring a sell-out). The St. Patrick’s Day event benefits the Gaslamp Quarter Historical Foundation. Don that leprechaun-green attire and come shake those shamrocks at downtown San Diego’s 14th annual shamROCK St. Patrick’s Day festival!
