Famed for her toned, taut, tiny waistline and itsy-bitsy bikini-style attire, Shakira was dismayed to discover how her body changed after her pregnancy, she told Self magazine recently. "After the delivery, you look like a shar-pei!" she wailed. So the shake-your-hips singer took action with a fitness program that included Zumba.
Even during her pregnancy, Shakira focused on minimizing the damage done to her body. She worked out four to five mornings a week, she told Self. "I did Zumba throughout my pregnancy," she reveals, and turned to an expert for individual training sessions: Zumba creator Beto Perez, who has created at-home fitness DVDs for those of us who don't have access to his expertise in person, such as the Zumba Fitness Exhilarate Body Shaping System (click for details).
To complement the abdominal exercises in Zumba, Shakira also dieted, eating eight tiny meals daily that featured protein, fiber, calcium, iron and fish oil. In addition to that fiber and fish, she did additional fitness sessions with her personal trainer.
"I’m quite proud of my rear," Shakira informed Self magazine. She used ballet squats and squeezed her derriere 30 times during each session. So if she has an odd expression on "The Voice" during the next season that she appears, you'll know it's not the singer: It's the glutes.
