It's down to the final ten on “The Voice” and each coach is working hard to help their artists get one step closer to becoming that winning Voice. After Monday's live performance show, I caught up with Shakira, who told me she learned a few new things about coaching this second time around. “I have been trying to pay a lot more attention to the song selection; that's something I learned last season,” said the multiple-Grammy winner, who currently has two remaining artists on her team after one went home last week. “I have also learned that not everything depends on you as a coach; these artists - they have their own personalities - you just have to help them get better and get more confident. They are who they are and you have to find the best way to display and showcase the best of who they are as artists.”
In addition to her care in helping her artists get ahead, Shakira's care for empowering the youth is highly visible through her work with the Barefoot Foundation: A charity she started when she was just 18-years-old devoted to providing quality education to children in need. This past weekend, the singer was honored for her advocacy by receiving the 'Hero Award' at the Radio Disney Music Awards. Her humble response to the recognition showcased the best of who she is. “That meant a lot, but I wanted to share that award with so many other people who are out there working so hard for others and to make a change in this world. People don't even know about them because they're not famous; those are the real heroes,” said Shakira.
There is no doubt the children who are educated thanks to the aid of her foundation see the artist as their hero. The Barefoot Foundation, based in her native Colombia, builds new schools in poverty-stricken areas giving kids first-time access to libraries, playgrounds and computers. “It was a sweet opportunity to talk about important things in front of those kids because they are going to be the future heroes of the world.”
Thanks to her foundation, Shakira is helping better the futures of many!
