Shakira is known for her chart-topping English and Spanish hits, and now the international music star is taking on the world of Country music! In addition to mentoring Country artists as a coach on NBC's "The Voice" this season, Shakira also has a duet on her new album with fellow "Voice" coach and platinum-selling Country artist Blake Shelton. "I'm a very curious person and so I've been intrigued by Country music," said Shakira on the red carpet at a intimate concert with "The Voice" coaches in Los Angeles Thursday.
The "Hips Don't Lie" singer said it was the context behind Country music song lyrics that most drew her into the genre. "I'm very much into Country music right now because I've been thirsty for real songs; songs with narrative. And that's what's Country has. And I think that Blake has somehow showed me all of that, and Miranda [Lambert], too when I had the opportunity to work with her." said Shakira, who asked Lambert to be an adviser on her team on "The Voice" after recruiting Country artists for the first time.
"It's been great. I have so much respect for Country music," said the multiple-Grammy winner on the experience of working with Country singers this season on the Emmy-Award winning musical competition.
"It's been so organic and so natural this process of me getting acquainted with Country music that now I'm going to perform at the ACM's (Academy of Country Music Awards) with Blake Shelton! I can't believe it! I'm so thrilled!"
Watch Shakira and Blake Shelton perform like at The Academy of Country Music Awards Sunday, April 6 at 8/7c on CBS.
