Shakira gives birth to a healthy baby boy in Barcelona and names him Milan. That's the latest news from the sexy Colombian singer and her equally sexy boyfriend and father of her child, professional athlete Gerard Piqué. According to a Jan. 22, 2013 report by People, the hospital where Shakira gave birth has confirmed that both the first-time mom and her infant son are doing well.
The singer, who is also an accomplished dancer, posted the joyous news on her personal website in several different languages:
"We are happy to announce the birth of Milan Piqué Mebarak, son of Shakira Mebarak and Gerard Piqué, born January 22nd at 9:36pm [sic] in Barcelona, Spain.
The name Milan (pronounced MEE-lahn), means dear, loving and gracious in Slavic; in Ancient Roman, eager and laborious; and in Sanskrit, unification.
Just like his father, baby Milan became a member of FC Barcelona at birth.
The hospital confirmed that the couple’s first child weighed approximately 6lbs. 6 ounces, and that both mother and child are in excellent health."
Two years ago, Shakira announced her breakup from long term boyfriend Antonio de la Rúa on the same blog where she just announced the birth of her baby boy. What a difference 24 months makes. It's good to see that she has fully moved on with her life since the split. Congratulations to Shakira on the birth of her first child.
