Shakira and her beau Gerard Piqué are the newest proud parents of a baby boy named Milan, according to a Jan. 22 PEOPLE report.
“We are happy to announce the birth of Milan Piqué Mebarak, son of Shakira Mebarak and Gerard Piqué, born Jan. 22nd at 9:36 p.m. in Barcelona, Spain,” the couple announced on the singer's website.
“The Voice” coach posted the meaning of her son’s name in multiple languages on her website. “The name Milan (pronounced MEE-lahn), means dear, loving and gracious in Slavic; in Ancient Roman, eager and laborious; and in Sanskrit, unification. Just like his father, baby Milan became a member of FC Barcelona at birth.”
Prior to going to the hospital, Shakira asked her fans for prayers for her big day, tweeting, “I’d like to ask you all to accompany me in your prayers on this very important day of my life.”
Baby Milan weighed 6 lbs., 6 oz., and both Shakira and her new son are doing great, according to the hospital’s statement.
The “Hips Don’t Lie” singer previously dated Antonio de la Rua, the son of the former Argentine President. The couple broke up after 11 years together.
