Shakira and FC Barcelona star Gerard Pique welcome first child

Shakira is a mom, the Colombian pop star announced via her website Wednesday.

The 35-year-old singer and 25-year-old soccer star Gerard Pique welcomed their son, Milan Piqué Mebarak, into the world late Tuesday night in Barcelona, Spain.

According to Shakira's website, Milan (pronounced MEE-lahn), "means dear, loving and gracious in Slavic; in Ancient Roman, eager and laborious; and in Sanskrit, unification."

Also, the stament says, "Just like his father, baby Milan became a member of FC Barcelona at birth."

Pique is a defender for the Spanish soccer club.

The 6-pound-6-ounce baby Milan, along with his mother, are both in "excellent health."
