Shakespeare has been in the news lately from "The Hollow Crown," coming to the U.S. to various new movies based on his works, he never goes out of fashion. One of his works, "Macbeth " is getting a new adaptation and today Variety reported that French actress, Marion Cotillard has taken over the leading role that was once going to be played by actress, Natalie Portman. Cotillard will be playing opposite of actor, Michael Fassbender.
The director of the new adaptation is Justin Kurzel, who is known for his film "Snowtown." "Macbeth," is Shakespeare's cautionary tale about what power and greed can do to a person. The play takes play in Medieval Scotland and it's two main characters are Macbeth and Lady Macbeth.
One of the producers of the film, Iain Canning, made this comment about Cotillard being cast as the role:
Casting her as Lady Macbeth alongside Michael Fassbender will bring a fresh and exciting dynamic to the story of lovers pulled apart by war and ambition. (Source: Variety)
The film will go into per-production at the end of the year. In January in the U.K. lensing will begin. FILM4 and Studiocanal are the film's majority financiers and they will be distributing the film.
So Shakespeare's "Macbeth," is getting a movie adaptation with Michael Fassbender and Marion Cotilard as the leads, Macbeth and Lady Macbeth.
