Mohammad Reza Shajarian and the Pournazeri Brothers join together in an historic collaboration at the Nokia Theatre L.A. Live on March 23. Shajarian, an internationally and critically acclaimed Persian traditional singer, composer, and ostad master of Persian music, is considered “Iran’s greatest living master of traditional Persian music” (Los Angeles Times) and one of the world’s “50 Great Voices” (NPR).
Shajarian is a two-time Grammy nominee for Best World Music and recipient of UNESCO’s Picasso and Mozart medals. He has also received the national radio and television golden cup, the Nushin medal, a prize presented by Turkish parliament speaker, and has been classified as Iran’s best classical vocalist.
Tahmoures and Sohrab Pournazeri, the two brothers who will be joining Shajarian on stage, are two of Iran’s most inventive young composers and instrumentalists. Inspired by Shajarian, these brothers have created a contemporary Persian music that expands on the Persian classical tradition while at the same time remaining true to the Persian origins.
Performing with the Pournazeris and Shajarian will be an eclectic ensemble of twelve musicians from North America, Europe, and the Middle East. According to Sohrab Pournazeri, the show will allow the audience “to take away an experience where they are touched by a new Iran, a new culture of Iran.”
