Shaggy to release new album July 19th

International Dancehall-Reggae superstar, Orville “Shaggy” Burrell is set to release his tenth studio, “Summer In Kingston,” next Tuesday.

The Grammy Award winning singer is aiming to promote Jamaica on a wider scale with this eight-track digital album. The first single off “Summer In Kingston,” entitled “Sugarcane” has gathered great buzz within the industry since its May release. The single combines a catchy tropical beat with infiltrating vocals; making it one of this summer’s most talked about & played songs, locally & internationally.

Furthermore, Shaggy revealed to the Jamaica Observer on Tuesday that he’s collaborating with Stephen “Di Genius” McGregor on a remix of “Sugarcane,” which will be unveiled via concert in New Kingston this Saturday. According to the “It Wasn’t Me” singer, the concert will also be an album launch party & could feature as an MTV special very soon.  "MTV and Rolling Stone will be here to cover this party and we want them to see a party in the streets of Kingston,” Shaggy told the Observer.

Staying true to his word of giving his native country exposure with “Summer In Kingston,” Shaggy also collaborated with legendary Reggae artiste, Maxi Priest as well as former Digicel Rising Stars winner, Christopher Martin for the single “To The World.” The song is a dedication to 2008 Olympic Gold Medalist & world-record holding athlete, Usain Bolt; boosting his bid to repeat his feats at the 2012 Olympics in London, England. “To The World” will also highlight the Jamaican Village 2012 celebrations in London; showcasing Jamaican culture, entertainment & variety of Jamaican foods for Olympic patrons to savor.

Shaggy has sold in excess of 20 million albums worldwide and 6 of his previous 9 studio albums have been #1s:  Boombastic, Midnite Lover, Hotshot, Lucky Day, Clothes Drop & Intoxication. The “Boombastic” album won him his first Grammy Award for Best Reggae Album in 1996 while his “Hot Shot” album, released in 2000 was certified Diamond in the United States.

Regarding other future plans, Shaggy will be performing July 31st at the One Love Peace Festival at Wembley Stadium in London England alongside fellow internationally acclaimed Dancehall-Reggae artistes Sean Paul and Gyptian as well as Jamaican born, American hip-hop superstar, Busta Rhymes. Shaggy will also be hosting his “Shaggy & Friends” event on December 29, 2011. The event, initiated in 2008 has raised close to JA$100 million for the Bustamante Children’s Hospital in Kingston.
