Three words immediately come to mind when we think of Shadow - betrayal, loneliness, and survival.
Shadow had the misfortune of belonging to a family who didn't return his unconditional love.
When his family was forced to evacuate their home in Staten Island during Hurricane Sandy, Shadow was left abandoned, locked in a crate without food or water, for eight days. When his family returned to their destroyed home, instead of being overjoyed to see Shadow alive, they betrayed him once again.
They took him to be euthanized. But luck was on his side and Shadow's road to happiness began.
While in the vet's office, his owner was convinced to surrender Shadow to the Brooklyn ACC instead, and was then pulled by Fur Friends in Need. He went into boarding at Country Estate Kennels and received the training he needed. Read original story (here).
Shadow had many people, headed by Suzanne Cappetta, who loved and believed in him. They dedicated much of their free time showering him with love and affection. Suzanne promised him that she would not let him down as his family had.
They spent many hours with him going for walks, outings, car rides, overnights, and were by his side during a recent scare which required surgery after he ingested some bedding. His recovery was touch and go, but he survived once again and was just released from the hospital.
Suzanne made promises to Shadow months ago, and now she has delivered on them. The Facebook page set up for him has announced the wonderful news that Shadow went to his loving forever home - the one he waited so long for!
This boy has been through a lot and survived a lot, and thanks to his group of supporters, he has moved on to enjoy the life he deserves.
Now we can add three more words that come to mind when we think of Shadow - love, happiness, and family.
We'd like to thank his new family, all who followed his journey and shared for him, and to Shadow's "angels" who were always there, and helped him through the darkness of his past.
Enjoy life, Shadow. You were destined to survive, in order to find love after all.
