Everyone should be well rested after the Labor Day weekend, and the 2009 FAAN Walk for Food Allergy is a chance to go to San Francisco's Golden Gate Park at it's best season of the year, Fall. It starts Saturday morning with check-in at 8:30 am, followed by a two-mile walk in the park between the De Young Museum and the California Academy of Science at 9:30 am.
If you know someone who has a food allergy come support them. FAAN events are a great place to meet other people who have the same or similar allergies. When children meet other children with allergies they feel empowered to find a cure and become self-advocates for themselves, instead of victims of circumstance. Eight foods account for 90 percent of all food-allergic reactions in the U.S.: milk, eggs, wheat, soy, fish, and shellfish. peanuts, & tree nuts such as walnuts, almonds, cashews, pistachios, & pecans. Donations can be accepted online here. FAAN supports research studies that will someday lessen the chances of death for nut allergy sufferers, and saves lives by promoting awareness about the seriousness of food allergies. The Food Allergy & Anaphylaxis Network is a four-star rated charity which supports research, legislation, and awareness of food allergies.
If you can't see yourself walking, then please sign up to be a volunteer! There are many ways to contibute to the sucess of the FAAN walk by helping to set up, signing in walkers at registration, or handing out refreshments to walkers
