Day programs help seniors live in their own homes longer
Most seniors prefer to stay in their own homes as long as possible. This can be difficult if the person cannot care for him or herself unassisted and perhaps cannot navigate the stairs at home without help. When a person needs some assistance but can still do many things on his or her own, an adult day program might be the answer. These programs provide supervision and assistance during weekday hours anywhere from 1-5 days per week.
If a person has had a recent change in health or has any of these signs he or she might benefit from a day health program:
• Recent stroke,
• Frequent falls,
• Memory loss that interferes with the ability for self care,
• Dangerous kitchen accidents, such as leaving burners on,
• Unable to take care of basic needs (eating, dressing, toileting, grooming),
• Concern that the person will not be able to respond appropriately to danger. For example, can he or she tell you what to do in case of a fire in the house?
So, how can you find an adult day program in San Francisco?

Thank you Liz for including adult day services in examiner.com. If you, or readers, would like any further details, such as the difference between an adult day program (social) and adult day health care center (medical), please check out the websites listed above or call. IOA is one of the Network's member centers and Cindy Kauffman, VP, expresses her thanks for this "terrific article." One note; the toll free #877-750-4111 and the fax #415-750-5341 applies for all of IOA's services. Direct line to IOA's adult day program is (415) 600-2690; and direct line to IOA's adult day health center is (415) 750-5330.
