SF news: Storm warning for Rockies
Here in San Francisco the weather is warmer than normal, much to the delight of many San Franciscans.
"Our weather recently has been amazing. At this time of year, we are normally inundated with rain. Such a pleasant change."
But if you are heading to the Rockies, you need to pack your winter woollies.
That's because a major storm is destined for that area.
The winter storm will hit parts of the Rocky Mountains and the Northern Plains.
Look out for the snows being heaviest in the mountains of Colorado, Utah and Wyoming.
NWS in Colorado warns: "A winter storm system will bring snow to the forecast area through Friday night. The storm will be slow moving...so a prolonged period of snow will occur, with very heavy snow at times over the plains of Northeastern Colorado. The snow will be accompanied by strong winds creating blizzard conditions with very poor visabilities...12” to 24” of accumulation is expected."
The storm is expected to gradually weaken and should move East by Sunday.
Similar to this storm, a major storm last October left 2M with power and 3 people dead. (See that article here by this Examiner: East Coast snow storm, leaves 2M without power, 3 dead (photos, video))
Just like the Rockies, the East Coast often gets hits with bad weather. Here is a story by this Examiner on what happened when Hurricane Irene hit earlier: Irene threatens to wreak havoc along the East Coast (photos, video))
Snow and a raging blizzard also caused havoc on the East Coast in 2010. See that article by this Examiner here: Horrific Blizzard 2010 affects flights from SF Bay Area (photos))
