Like a great wine and meal pairing, Wesla Whitfield has found the perfect compliment to her extraordinary talent with the new Society Cabaret, opening tonight in San Francisco.
Whitfield is the consummate performer that is iconic to San Francisco much like Cable Cars and the Golden Gate Bridge. I’ve said many times, she’s the true San Francisco treat.
She will perform at the intimate and beautiful Society Cabaret, which recently made a home inside the Hotel Rex, through Sept. 15.
Accompanied by her partner-in-crime, arranger and accompanist Mike Greensill, their new show “Street of Dreams” bring a unique spin to the Great American Songbook - old favorites and new surprises with a hint of jazz. For those who have heard Whitfield before know that she can turn a phrase like no other and can make every song her own, no matter how classic or known it is.
Further, she continues to amaze and find gems that need dusting off from the classic American music archieves and her rapport and repartee with an audience is unmatched.
She is the definition of cabaret performer and now can appeal to a whole new era of music lovers who will likely find the Society Cabaret a cool place to discover and explore talent.
You might arrive an hour early to enjoy some cocktails and meal either at the hotel’s Library Bar, just outside the cabaret, or before or during the show inside the cabaret itself.
Whitfield and Greenfield play Wednesdays-Saturdays evenings at 8pm and Sunday matinee at 2pm.
