SF learns: Stolen Rembrandt artwork found in Encino
ENCINO, LOS ANGELES-- San Francisco residents are finding out in top news today that a Rembrandt artwork that had been stolen from a hotel in Marina del Rey has now been found in Encino, says ABC 7 News.
Los Angeles is around an 8-hour drive from San Francisco.
"Glad they found it," says San Francisco resident and art lover, Dora McIntosh.
The information of the Rembrandt having been found was passed along by the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.
A tip, according to officials working on the case, came from an unnamed informant.
The Rembrandt drawing, which is valued at $250,000 and dates back to around 1655 is called "The Judgment," says ABC 7 News in San Francisco.
It was taken from a private exhibition on Saturday night. That exhibition was being shown at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel in Marina del Rey.
The artwork was found in a church and an employee of the Linearis Institute verified that the drawing was, indeed, the missing one.
No suspects are in custody, reports ABC 7 News.
According to the LA Times, detectives will release a sketch and pictures of a person they believe was involved in the "well-thought-out, well-executed theft."
Anyone with information, however, should still get in touch with the Marina del Rey sheriff's station on (310) 482-6000.
Experts believe that around 700 works of Rembrandt currently exist, says the LA Times.
