SF learns: Gabrielle Giffords will step down this week (photos, video)
Breaking news here in San Francisco is that, according to local ABC 7 News, Gabrielle Giffords, who was shot in the head by gunman Jared Lee Loughner, and survived, will be stepping down.

The Gabrille Giffords story is connected to the San Francisco Bay Area because one of the women shot in the fray, Susan Hileman, was an ex-Bay Area school employee. (See that article here: Arizona shooting: one victim had lived in SF Bay Area )
Hileman had taken with her the little girl, Christina Taylor Green who was killed and whose organs were donated so another child might live (See that story here: Arizona shooting: Christina Green's organs donated - San Francisco ...)

Rep. Gabrielle Giffords of Arizona, says the San Francisco news station, will be stepping down from Congress as early as this week.

Giffords will not be seeking re-election when her current term expires this year, states ABC News
"I think that is a good idea. She has been incredibly brave throughout everything that's happened. Now she deserves to just retire and spend time where her husband, Mark Kelly. I know he has retired too and I think that is good. I wish them both the best of luck," says San Francisco resident Daniella Avery.
