SF hears: Passenger forced to stand for entire 7-hour flight

One top news story here in San Francisco is about the man who had to stand on a flight.

And he stood for seven hours, including for take-off and landing.

"That's a terrible situation," says San Francisco resident, and frequent flyer, Donal Witham.

Local San Francisco news station, ABC 7 Local, says that the passenger in question had to stand for the seven hours because " a morbidly obese man sitting next to him made it impossible for him to hook up his seatbelt."

The passenger, Arthur Berkowitz, was on a flight from Anchorage to Philadelphia and he was flying with U.S. Airways.

Because the airplane was booked to capacity, Berkowitz had to stand during the entire flight, including for take-off and landing.  There were no other seats available.

According to ABC 7 News, U.S. Airways subsequently offered Berkowitz $200 compensation, but Berkowitz tells news reporters that he wants the return of his entire $800 - the price he paid for his ticket.
