SF hears: Occupy Cal tents removed

SF hears: Occupy Cal tents removed

Breaking news coming in to San Francisco, fron ABC 7 News, is that police dressed in riot gear entered the encampment of  "Occupy Cal" at Berkeley University and demanded that students dismantle their camp. The Occupy movement has been going on for some time around California.

There were around 15 tents set up at Sproul Hall at 4am this morning.  The tent encampment was a violation of the University of Berkeley's ban on camping.
Police lined up near Sproul Hall.

The Occupy Protesters had set up their tents at around 8.30 pm last night after a vote was taken to set the camp up.  Last week, the attempt to set up a camp was foiled by police at the University of Berkeley, who were assisted by Alameda County sheriff's deputies.

According to ABC 7 News in San Francisco, "The videographer filming the encampment and police action this morning said two people were arrested after many of the protesters had left when police arrived before 4 a.m."

The news station went on to say: "A group "mic check," or community check-in, after the police raid confirmed that one UC Berkeley student was arrested, along with a protester from "Occupy Oakland.""

The police have now moved campers away from Sproul Hall.  The Occupy group chanted "Whose university? Our university," as they were being moved away.

In general, however, the raid was non-violent.
