SF Funcheap Day: Free or cheap activities in San Francisco

If you find yourself with a free day and need something to do or happen to be visiting the fine city of San Francisco and want to walk in the footsteps of the locals, then look no further than http://sf.funcheap.com/. SF Funcheap (formerly Johnny Funcheap) is the best online resource for cheap (or free) activities in the Bay Area.

An “SF Funcheap Day” can consist of just about anything on their extensive list of inexpensive activities. It’s best to log onto the website the day you are looking for the adventure as events are added all the time.  Start early and plan a day hitting most of the events. Traveling from one event to another is half the fun, so strap on your sneakers, don’t forget your MUNI pass, and bring a couple of bucks for snacks and a few beers along the way.

Having a SF Funcheap Day is a great way to experience new things and see a different side to the city. Choose events that you would not normally attend and try not to deviate from your established route. You can also add places along the way like a stop at your favorite coffee shop or visit to an art gallery.

I had a great SF Funcheap Day with my husband in December 2011. First, we started with 1) a street car ride down Market Street, followed by 2) a visit to the San Francisco Railway Museum. Then 3) a quick stop to see the ice skating rink at the Embarcadero and 4) the adjacent Hawaiian Airlines sponsored party serving free Hawaiian snacks and coffee. After watching the hula dancers and having some Maui chips, we crossed the street, 5) explored the Ferry Building’s farmers market, and enjoyed a sandwich al fresco.  We then 6) hurried over to the Financial District Hyatt Hotel and saw it snow inside (fake snow of course). After that we 7) took a stroll up Market Street and bought some shoes at DSW and finished the day with 8) a free concert by The Blank Tapes at the Apple Store.

SF Funcheap Days are inexpensive and a great way to enjoy all that San Francisco has to offer. Log on, plan your day, and enjoy your personalized adventure that is sure to leave you with great memories.
