California garden lovers, make plans for the S.F. Flower & Garden Show starting Thursday, March 20, 2013. This stellar annual Bay Area event has added a new feature: Celebrity chefs including Annie Somerville of Greens Restaurant and Wendy Johnson of Green Gulch Farm will dazzle fans of organic gardening and food. See them and other San Francisco culinary luminaries plus a new twist for 2013. Leslie Sbrocco, host of “Check Please Bay Area” and author of “Wine for Women” & upcoming “Adventures of a Thirsty Girl,” joins Livermore Valley winemaker Steven Mirassou, for a tasting seminar on pairing and sharing wine.
Always popular for its stunning landscape designs and lush tropical theme gardens, the show has expanded its horizons to embrace the broader theme of the California lifestyle and green living. There are 20 gorgeous international display gardens and the 30 small space gardens, so plan on a full day tour of gorgeous greenery.
Even if you aren't an avid gardener, you'll still want to take a day trip to this entertaining and unique event, or even make it into a weekend getaway. There are special exhibits of everything from tiny urban gardens to lush outdoor rooms, all under the umbrella of "Urban Habitat." Get more ideas from the attached video.
March 20-24 at the San Mateo Event Center
Wed-Sat 10am-7pm and Sunday 10am-6pm.
With life in the California Garden a perennial highlight, there is truly something for everyone. Plan on a full day's excursion to tour over 20 fully staged gardens, see the new edible gardening ideas, wine gardens and more.
Gardening "from farm to table" is a message that will ring true, even if your farm is just a raised garden bed in an urban setting.
