An inmate with about six weeks to go on his sentence escaped from San Francisco County jail while taking out the trash and remains on the lamb.

The SF County Sheriff's Department says Timothy Deshone Midgett, 40, of San Francisco, was escorted down to the basement of the Hall of Justice on 850 Bryant Street by a Sheriff's deputy at around 5 a.m. Saturday morning to take out the jail trash. While on the way to a dumpster, he ran out a door and fled eastbound on foot.

The deputy chased him, provided a description with a direction of travel, but did not catch him, so he got away. The department describes him as 6-foot 3-inches tall, weighing about 165 pounds with short black and gray hair, brown eyes with a mustache and goatee.

The Sheriff's Department says he had "outside jail clearance," and was due to be released on July 24, 2014. He had been in jail since July 25, 2013.

The department says its officers are "actively searching" for Midgett and they have notified surrounding law enforcement agencies.

They also say he has a warrant for his arrest on narcotics charges out of Houston, and they are investigating the incident.

Anyone with information on his whereabouts is encouraged to contact the SFSD at 415-554-7225.
