Sexy Films: Good For Her announces 2013 Feminist Porn Awards nominees

The nominees for the 8th annual Feminist Porn Awards were announced on Thursday by Good For Her, the Toronto, Canada-based sex shop that sponsors the event, which will be held next month, April 4-6, and is being presented this year in conjunction with the Feminist Porn Conference at the University of Toronto.

This year's festival kicks off on April 4 at Bloor Hot Docs Cinema, 506 Bloor Street West in Toronto, with Public.Provacative.Porn: The Year's Best in Feminist Film, featuring a Q&A with filmmakers and performers including Nica Noelle, Jiz Lee, and Julie Simone, moderated by CoCo La Crèm (tickets are $15 advance/$20 at the door).

"This year’s nominees list once again showcases erotic entertainment that is smart, sexy, and appreciates viewers looking for hot feminist films," according to a statement released by Good For Her. "In addition to featuring over 50 nominations, the 2013 nominee list includes 14 nominated websites... From familiar faces to exciting newcomers, the nominees this year bring their unique and exciting perspectives on what is sexy, what is erotic, what is engaging and what is powerful back to Toronto."

Filmmakers Madison Young and Nica Noelle top this year's list, each with five nominations; Courtney Trouble, Julie Simone, and Tristan Taormino also have mulitple nominations this year.

The Awards Gala will be held on April 5 at the Capitol Event Theatre, 2492 Yonge Street, in Toronto (tickets $25 advance/$30 at the door).

Films nominated for the Feminist Porn Awards must meet at least two of the following criteria, via GoodForHer.com:

1) Women and/or traditionally marginalized people were involved in the direction, production and/or conception of the work.

2) The work depicts genuine pleasure, agency and desire for all performers, especially women and traditionally marginalized people.

3) The work expands the boundaries of sexual representation on film, challenges stereotypes and presents a vision that sets the content apart from most mainstream pornography. This may include depicting a diversity of desires, types of people, bodies, sexual practices, and/or an anti-racist or anti-oppression framework throughout the production.

Batts FLY, Breaking Glass Pictures, Joybear Pictures, and Feelmore Entertainment.

The Feminist Porn Conference will be held on April 6 at the University of Toronto.

"We seek to raise awareness, pose critical questions, and incite dialogue about the shifting landscape of pornography and what roles we can play in it."
