Adult film star James Deen won Male Performer of the Year last night at the 30th anniversary AVN Awards -- the Adult Video Network's annual gala is often referred to as the Oscars of Porn -- doubling up on his win in the same category last week at the 2013 XBIZ Awards. James Deen also tied with Sunny Leone for Crossover Star of the Year thanks to his new career acting in mainstream films, including the forthcoming Paul Schrader/Brett Easton Ellis flick The Canyons, opposite Lindsay Lohan.
After accepting his award, Deen took to Twitter to lament, "After this week I'm confident that no one in Hollywood, other than @breteastonellis, will invite me to their parties #dirtylittlesecrets" and "The best thing about being kinda quasi sorta known is that I can go up to Ron Jeremy and say hi whenever I want."
Asa Akira, co-host of the event, won for Female Performer of the Year, and Deen and Akira even shared an award -- Best Three-Way Sex Scene -- along with Brooklyn Lee (Female Performer of the Year at last week's XBIZ Awards) for their role in Asa Akira is Insatiable 3, from Elegant Angel Productions. Asa Akira to the Limit won Best Star Showcase, and Akira won several awards in different categories for Asa Akira is Insatiable 3.
Other big wins in the performer categories included Lily Carter (Best Actress for her role in Wasteland, this year's Movie of the Year and Best Drama winner) and Steven St. Croix (Best Actor for his role in Torn, this year's Best Romance Release winner). Best Male Newcomer went to Logan Pierce, while Best New Starlet went to Remy LaCroix. Tom Byron won Best Supporting Actor for his role as Obi Wan Kenobi in Axel Braun's Star Wars XXX: A Porn Parody. Male Performer of the Year went to Rocco Siffredi, and Female Performer of the Year went to Aleska Diamond. Mark Ashley won Unsung Male Performer of the Year; Brandy Aniston won Unsung Starlet of the Year. The epnoymous Vanity won Transexual Performer of the Year.
