In the second episode of The Ultimate Fighter 18, the male and female fighters move into the TUF house, and Julianna Pena, Miesha Tate’s first pick, fights Shayna Baszler, the first pick of Riverside County’s Ronda Rousey.
In the beginning of the episode, the fighters move into the TUF house. The fact that male and female fighters live in the same house together brings up the topic of sexual tension.
Fighter Chris Holdsworth says, “I know there’s some single girls in the house. There’s some single guys. So, we’ll see what happens.”
Julianna Pena dismisses the idea that she will be distracted by the men on the show.
Pena says, “I know that I came here to do business, and looking for a boyfriend was not on my list of things to do.”
During a training session, Tate notices that Tim Gorman, one of her fighters, is nursing an injury. A doctor says Gorman is not fit to continue, so UFC President Dana White replaces Gorman with Louis Fisette.
Later, Tate prepares Pena for the fight against Bazler, but not many people believe Pena has a chance to win.
Baszler says, “She doesn’t deserve to be in the same ring with me. She should be coming to my seminars and learning from me.”
Even Sarah Moras, Pena’s teammate, says “Shayna’s gonna win. But I’m hoping that Julianna just, like, brings a beating on her so that it’s easier for us women.”
Despite what everyone thinks, Pena fights well. After getting outgrappled in the first round, Pena overwhelms Baszler with strikes in the second round. The two fighters clinch and end up on the ground, where Pena submits Baszler with a rear naked choke.
After winning, Pena says, “I don’t think anybody on my team thought I was going to win.”
For the next fight, Tate chooses Holdsworth to fight Chris Beal.
An emotional Rousey says, “She specifically picked Chris Beal because they know he has a hand injury. That’s some f***ing pussy ****!”
The episode ends with Rousey criticizing Tate for celebrating after Pena’s win.
Rousey says, “Just to let you know, you smiling at my girl’s pain today is one more reason I’m going to f***ing destroy you.”
Tate points out that Baszler and Tate are friends, but Rousey does not respond.
