Sexual Ecstasy is Necessary: "Strange Sex" & Thinking Off With Barbara Carrellas

What is ecstasy?

Today's Kiss & Tell Report.

Ecstasy is a sensation that many of us may be hard-pressed to describe but we would all enjoy experiencing. Of course I'm not talking about the illegal chemical party drug, MDMA. The type of ecstasy that I'm describing definitely can affect you like drugs and may be just as addictive, but the only chemicals are produced by your own body.

When I wanted to have a frank conversation about sexual ecstasy, I knew just who to call. Barbara Carrellas is a sexpert and author of the upcoming Hay House book, "Ecstasy is Necessary: A Practical Guide." The pink-haired New York City resident is also an alum of the The Learning Channel (TLC) show "Strange Sex," where she proved her abilities at "thinking off," which is thinking herself into ecstatic orgasm. Her previous book was called "Urban Tantra." It was a pleasure to meet the performance artist at her Harlem brownstone with her partner, Kate Bornstein, where I interviewed her on-camera for "Kiss & Tell TV." The dictionary defines ecstasy as a "rapturous delight, an overpowering emotion or exaltation, a state of sudden, intense feeling, the frenzy of poetic inspiration and mental transport or rapture from the contemplation of divine things." Sexual ecstasy, in kind, is the feeling of pleasure, passion and arousal that can come from a divine experience with intimacy. But do we have to have sex to experience ecstasy?

Barbara Carrellas explains that we are all one thought away from an ecstatic experience. The new sex positive book published by Louise Hay challenges us to use our biggest sexual organ, the brain. Whether you will be able to think yourself into extended orgasms is up to you. Carrellas insists that being mindful while doing mundane tasks bring will us absolute pleasure-- and she's right. There is a power in being present and focusing on joy.

A kiss gets the natural oxytocin flowing and a workout revives our dopamine. In a world where we try to medicate away our personality quirks "Ecstasy is Necessary" presents us with a critical message. Experiencing life is necessary. Living and loving with all five or six of our senses will take us beyond the joy that we thought was previously possible.

Can you imagine if we were all living, working and playing in a semi-orgasmic state most of the time? What an incredible world it would be.
